Course: OV3

In the first course in which one encounters Rhino 6, you had to design an subterranean sculpture garden for the Escher in het Paleis museum in The Hague. There were certain requirements, such as wheelchair accessibility, the number of sculptures and the presence of a restaurant.

I opted for a spiral shape towards the centre of the sculpture garden, with the view becomes narrower and narrower as one progresses. In the end, there is a series of doors from which one can walk straight to the museum entrance.

Three sketch designs for the sculpture garden.

Three sketch designs for the sculpture garden. The middle one was ultimately chosen; it was the most calm and logical.

The concrete partitions do not run perfectly straight, the same goes for the beams laid across the garden. This is to make the garden feel more organic and in keeping with the cluttered character that downtown The Hague has.
